Pompeii and its assassin, Vesuvius

A day for the discovery of Pompeii and its tragic end. In Pompeii, everything has stood still day after day since 79 AD, when a rain of ash and lava destroyed it, killing between 10,000 and 25,000 people: the forum, basilica, roads, houses, temples, bottegas and bath complexes. The volcano Vesuvius, which wrought the city”s end, is located nine kilometres from Naples and its profile is clearly visible from anywhere in the lagoon. The houses of Neapolitan farmers have ventured almost all the way up to the summit, creating a singular landscape.
